Summer is a time for fun in the sun, vacations, and outdoor activities. However, it can also be when fitness routines fall by the wayside. The good news is that summer provides numerous opportunities to stay active and progress toward your fitness goals. Here are some tips to help you stay consistent with your fitness routine while enjoying everything summer offers.
1. Embrace Outdoor Workouts
Summer’s warm weather and longer days make it the perfect season to take your workouts outside. Here are some ideas:
- Running or Walking: Hit the trails or your local park for a refreshing run or walk. The change of scenery can be motivating and invigorating.
- Beach Workouts: If you’re near the coast, try a beach workout. Running on sand, beach volleyball, or even swimming in the ocean can be challenging and fun.
- Hiking: Explore local hiking trails. Hiking is a fantastic way to build endurance and strength while enjoying nature.
- Cycling: Whether it’s road or mountain biking, cycling is a great way to build cardiovascular fitness and strength.
2. Take Advantage of Water Activities
Water activities are not only fun but also an excellent way to stay fit:
- Swimming: Swimming is a full-body workout that improves cardiovascular health, strength, and flexibility.
- Kayaking or Paddleboarding: These activities provide a great upper body workout and can be done at many locations around the East Bay.
3. Stay Active During Vacations
Vacations don’t have to mean a break from fitness. Here’s how to stay active while traveling:
- Explore on Foot: Walk or bike around your vacation destination to sightsee and stay active.
- Hotel Gyms: Use hotel fitness facilities or quickly work out in your room with bodyweight exercises. Our Sweat and Flex classes are great workouts to complete while away. Or reach out, and we can send you some great Hotel workouts.
- Active Adventures: Plan activities like hiking, snorkeling, or kayaking as part of your trip.
4. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well
Summer heat can lead to dehydration, so drink plenty of water, ideally with added electrolytes. Additionally, lighter meals with plenty of fruits and vegetables can help you stay energized and fit.
5. Keep up Gym Routine
Stay connected with your Prowess fitness friends in the group class to stay motivated. Participate in our monthly challenges or set a goal to join the committed club during the summer.
6. Adapt and Adjust
It’s okay to adjust your routine based on your summer schedule. The key is to stay flexible and find ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily life, even if it’s not your usual routine.
Summer is a great time to enjoy new activities and the outdoors while staying committed to your fitness goals. By embracing outdoor workouts, taking advantage of water activities, incorporating classes, staying active on vacation, joining challenges, staying hydrated, and using social support, you can stay fit and have fun all summer. Remember, consistency is crucial to progress, so find what works for you and stick with it. Happy summer and happy training!
