Why I Stopped Logging My Food

When I first started my journey in nutrition coaching, I was all about macros. I meticulously logged every bite I took, ensuring my clients did the same. At the time, it felt necessary. It gave me a sense of control and direction, and my clients followed suit with rigorous dedication.

However, as the years passed, I realized that tracking every meal, every day, forever, just isn’t sustainable. Life is about more than numbers and perfect ratios. It’s about enjoying the moments, the meals, and the company without the constant pressure of logging. Trusting the healthy habits I had solidified, I decided to stop logging. And it was incredibly liberating. As I changed my approach, I encouraged my clients to do the same.

I no longer agonized over every gram of protein, carbohydrate, or fat. Instead, I started to listen to my body more, to understand its cues and needs. This intuitive approach not only improved my relationship with food, but also my overall well-being. 

Throughout this journey, I’ve reaffirmed that healthy habits outweigh meticulously tracking every meal. By establishing a robust foundation of balanced eating, I’ve learned what I need at each meal and snack to maintain my energy and well-being. This knowledge empowers me to make nutritious choices confidently, without the need for constant logging.

That said, I do believe logging can be a useful tool, particularly when initially learning about macronutrients, portion control, and how various foods affect your body. I also do believe it’s beneficial to occasionally revisit logging to keep yourself in check and ensure you’re on track with your goals.

By stepping away from the rigidity of constant tracking, I’ve discovered a healthier, more enjoyable approach to living and eating. I encourage my clients to explore this freedom as well. It’s all about making sustainable choices and finding what truly works for you in the long run.

Remember, logging food is merely a tool, not a lifelong obligation. I hope you can embrace the freedom of mindful eating and enjoy discovering what balance looks like for you!
