“Is this gym really for me?” “Do I really fit in here?” These are common questions people may ask when looking for a new gym to begin their fitness journey.
Maybe you’re new to CrossFit and saw an Instagram post that inspired you, maybe you have friends who also do CrossFit, or you want to start living an active lifestyle, or maybe you’re an experienced athlete looking for a new gym in a new town. Whatever the case may be, selecting the right gym is just as crucial as starting out on your health and fitness journey. So don’t just type in a few search queries and register with the first gym that pops up on Google Maps!
Each gym is unique, so having to decide on it will take time and effort since there are many factors to consider!
So, what factors should you consider when selecting a CrossFit gym that fits you?
- The Community. Every gym community will be different, so it’s best to check out the ambiance and get a sense of the culture. How do the gym’s members interact with one another? Do they greet newcomers and assist them with equipment and movements? Do they support one another? At the end of the day, these people can become like a second family to you. The community also includes the coach, personal trainers, and other personnel. Is the coach genuinely interested in your goals and “why” you want to join? So, it’s important to consider community at a CrossFit gym because it can either motivate, encourage, and inspire you – or make you feel uncomfortable, which could hinder your fitness goals.
- The Class Structure and Varied Program. When looking for a gym, one thing to consider is the class structure and its program. They must understand and be able to cater to the wants, needs, and desires of their clients. You should assess and ask yourself, does this gym understand my goals? Would I see progress and improvements by doing their program? Do the workout sessions vary in length throughout the week, or are they all the same? Are all of the workouts done at maximum intensity, or is there an emphasis on movement quality?
Do they offer nutrition coaching? CrossFit isn’t all about heavy weights and kipping pull-ups. It is all about improving your health and fitness. So make sure to check and see what other specialty classes they have to offer to ensure you have a diverse range of options to help you achieve your goals.
- The Gym Price. In addition to location, price is often a deciding factor when choosing a gym. We all know that CrossFit is quite expensive, but there are still some places that offer a good deal. When looking for a gym, look for one that offers quality coaching. It does not imply that because the price is low, you will receive the services you expect. However, this does not also mean that expensive gyms are the best option. Quality coaching means may differ from one another, but the primary goal of a CrossFit gym should be to keep its clients safe.
If you are new to CrossFit, give it 90 days to see how you like it. But keep in mind that you get what you pay for. As a result, you must ask yourself what you are looking for.
- The Appearance and Cleanliness. Others may not recognize this as a significant factor, but we believe it should be considered when looking for a gym. You should examine how welcoming and comfortable the space is. Is everything tidy? Are the floors clean? Is it well lit? Are the restroom and shower areas hygienic? Is there enough equipment? And is it well organized?
If you have never trained at another gym, you may take this for granted. However, there are no excuses for running a dirty and disorganized gym, or it might not be the best place to invest in your health and fitness, either.
Before deciding on a gym, ask yourself, “What are my goals?” “How much money am I willing to spend?” “How much time can I commit?”If you know what you want, you’ll be able to find the right gym to help you achieve your health and fitness goals.
